Best Frints at Skrool
On planet Boborp, all the childrinx go to skrool, just like here on planet Earth.
Omek and Yelfred are always late, but it's okay because they are always late together, and everyone knows that best frints do everything together. That is, until Yelfred meets Q-B. Yelfred is good at sharing many things, but he's not so good at sharing his new best frint.
But with a little understanding and a friendly game of Eyeball in the peedle pit, Yelfred and Omek might find that there's room for just one more best frint after all.
Reviews
"...silly perfection..."
―New York Times
"With humor and tenderness, Portis explores the uncertainty and unexpected joys that come with navigating childhood friendships"
―Publishers Weekly
“School on Boborp can be a pretty prickly place, yet it is also filled with the tenderness of connection and loyalty. Young Earthlings and their grown-up readers will certainly relate — and get a kick out of this extra-terrestrial glimpse into human behavior.”
―The Washington Post
“All teeth and no treacle, Portis handily revamps the three-is-a-crowd storyline. An adult may need to point out the moral--'what makes things the most fun... is a best frint and a best best frint'--as the alien antics will have readers ages 4-8 far too giggly to care about spotting a lesson.”
―Shelf Awareness, starred review
“An excellent and engaging read-aloud with a smart, timely message. A perfect selection for the beginning of school that will be requested all year long.”
―School Library Journal
“The humor and pacing are spot-on, and in the closing endpapers, readers will find an invitation to make up their own words. ('Your turp!') It’s out of this world.”
―Book Page
“Skrool on Boborp is similar to school on Earth, with rules, learning, and bloox to read, though Portis' pictures and text hilariously contradict each other.”
―Kirkus
